Disc wont open (Demolition Man 4K)
Disc wont open (Demolition Man 4K)
I am lost on how to get this to work. I cannot get Demolition Man 4K to open in MakeMKV. I have gone back and tried other disc (4K and Bluray) and they open just fine. Windows reads the disc, but MakeMKV hangs at the attached screen. Any ideas??

unplug the drive wait a min
plug it back in
do not open makemkv
put the disc in the drive
let the os see it then once the os sees it open makemkv
you can also clean the disc with damp lint free cloth and dry with another to avoid water spots.

Re: Disc wont open (Demolition Man 4K)
I think this is an issue with the Pioneer drive. I have the same issue with my Pioneer, but it seems to work with my Asus BW-16D1HT on 3.10 firmware, I'm ripping it now (switching between 3.10 and 3.03 solves read errors I may encounter). I was reading some where on here people saying Pioneer drives just struggle with UHD some times.

exactly the opposite for most people pioneers are way better than LG/asus rebrands
op likely has a power issue as the drive is usb powered maybe you too

Re: Disc wont open (Demolition Man 4K)
I don't think its a power issue. I'm using the vantec enclosures that is recommended by everyone here. I also bought a new one to try it and its still the same issue, Pioneer cant read the disc. That doesn't make sense to me, why would Demolition man need more power when every other UHD disc rips fine? I've also seen a few posts about this and everyone that has an issue reading this disc has a Pioneer drive. It worked fine copying with my Asus and I watched it last night on my DuneHD, worked great. I also doubt my drive is failing, its rather new and has never had any other issues or signs of failing.
I'm actually having the same issue with another new release, The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk Collection. Pioneer wont read it, but my asus rips it fine. Maybe its a software issue rather than a Pioneer drive issue?

I have the same issue with a Pioneer BDR-XS07U and an LG WH16NS60 in an OWC Mercury Pro enclosure.
With the LG drive, MakeMKV gets stuck during the decryption stage (no errors thrown, but the progress bar never completes) whereas with the Pioneer the progress bar remains blank after kicking off a disc backup (no errors thrown on screen). Even after ripping 2000+ discs (UHD and HD), I have never seen this behavior before. I put in another 4K disc to make sure the drives didn't get borked but whatever is going on seems specific to this disc.

I’m having the same problem reading Demolition Man. I also have a Pioneer in a Vantek enclosure.

Re: Disc wont open (Demolition Man 4K)
I'm not even able to get Windows to see the disc using an LG drive. I assumed it was a bad disc so convinced my seller to send me a replacement (props to Rarewaves!) The replacement has arrived and has the same read error; just keeps seeking for (I guess) the start of the track. The last disc I had this expereince with was Saving Private Ryan a couple of years ago. So it goes.

That’s amazing you had success copying the disc, nicely done! Is there any way we can impose on you to post the file briefly so we may share in your good fortune?Sloth242 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 1:40 pmI don't think its a power issue. Re: Disc wont open (Demolition Man 4K)
I was finally able to backup the disc with my Pioneer drive. At my wit's end, I figured I try to copy the entire disc to an ISO using dd which to my surprise, completed without a hitch. Immediately after, I fired up MakeMKV and I was able to backup the disc. I don't know if the dd copy somehow made the MakeMKV disc backup possible but that's the sequence of events that finally worked for me when all prior attempts failed. YMMV
P.S. This was all done on a Mac with MakeMKV 1.17.8.
