WH16NS40 dissapearing after attempting to rip 2nd UHD disc

Post by sephirothkefka »

I recently acquired a WH16NS40 on Amazon to use in tandem with the Pioneer BDR-211UBK I own to help rip some muli-disc 4k collections I own. It had been working perfectly fine for the past week however as soon as I updated to 1.17.8 I started having issues. After ripping 2 discs (1 in each drive) with 2 seperate windows open and ripping the next disc on the LG drive (which is faster) the drive suddenly dissapears as im choosing options for the not only in MakeMKV but Windows as well. The only way to make it stable is if I make sure BOTH drives are empty wait a little bit then put the disc back in the LG drive and it works perfectly. Is this a bug that had been introduced with 1.17.8 or has this happened in the past? I should note the drive has been flashed successfully via sata on my motherboard and is currently operating in a Vantec enclosure.

I tried that and it worked for a bit but it was still doing it. After not reading a regular Bluray disc (after taking many hours of ripping 4K Seinfeld) that while scratched read perfectly on my BDR-211UBK and GGW-H20L, I sent the drive back to amazon for a refund. What a piece of garbage...

I noticed the same issue with one of my drives after the latest makemkv update. The other one is chugging along just fine.

The only work around I found is to turn off the flaky drive for about 10 minutes and then try again. It is cumbersome to add this delay between rips but it does let me limp along while I wait for a replacement drive. I will be sticking with LG simply because there are issues with the latest Pioneer firmware that block using customized firmware.
