Apologies for starting a new thread, but the other latest thread says "resolved". I'm not a newb to makemkv, just to this forum and to seeking help.
In the last few weeks, I've ripped close to 100 UHDs and have only had 2 fail, one of which is Blade Runner Final Cut. I'm using a flashed Pioneer BD-RW BDR-S13U and makemkv 1.17.8 on a Windows PC with the latest key file.
I tried ripping the disc fresh out of the box. It opens fine and gets pretty far into the process until it gets a slew of errors (STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR and MEDIUM_ERROR). I have debug turned on so I do have a debug file. I have cleaned the disc and retried several times with same result.
I have played the disc in my Panny UB900 and it plays fine from beginning to end.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Blade Runner Final Cut newb question
Re: Blade Runner Final Cut newb question
You've probably hit a spot on the disc that the drive can not properly read.
If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!
MakeMKV verifies the data it reads from the disc to make sure it is correct. If that verification fails, MakeMKV will retry the read a few times. If it can't get the correct data, the rip will fail.
Disc players don't verify what they read from the disc and keep trying to go forward even in the case of bad data. Lots of times the resulting glitch is almost unnoticeable.
The standard advice is to gently clean the disc. Also, you could try the disc in a different drive. Finally, try a different copy of the disc.

Re: Blade Runner Final Cut newb question
Thanks, I've already cleaned the disc to no avail and dont have a second drive. Probably returning the disc and trying another copy is the best solution.
Re: Blade Runner Final Cut newb question
I tried another copy and it ripped just fine.
