Buying makemkv and linux?

Post by gawoji »

When I buy makemkv, do I get access to pre-compiled binaries, I can just run under linux? Because I don't know why I should be required to compile it myself after I spend money for it ...

Different versions of Linux require changes to the binary. The easiest way to deal with that has been to compile the parts that change on the system in question.

There are ways to "fix" that - you compile a version that includes everything that is used, not relying on the person's local operating system having the correct binaries. That means that a 64-bit binary won't run on a 32-bit system, though.

makemkvcon only comes in binary form. The GUI will have to be compiled.

You might be better off running Windows in a VM to use MakeMKV.

I'm not sure why you're correlating purchasing to distribution form and I also assuming that you're implying you'd prefer an executable, because it's extremely common to have purchased code supplied in non-executable form (ie. *.o/*.h).
