BDR-212V vs Verbatim 43888
BDR-212V vs Verbatim 43888
Hi,
BDR-212V (Digital Pioneer / VinPower Digital): I’ve read this can be flashed for UHD, but it’s not explicitly listed in the pinned/ultimate guides.
Is it likely to be more reliable for reading UHD than the ASUS BW-16D1HT and more durable than the slimline Verbatim 43888 (BDR-UD04)?
Since it has "BDR-212" in its model name, but with a ‘V’ suffix instead of ‘UBK’ as shown in the ultimate guide, can I assume this is ~90% guaranteed to be UHD flashable? Have I found a full-sized internal Pioneer drive still likely to be flashable for UHD?
I also came across a BDR-S11JBK (MFD 2018) and BDR-211EBK (MFD 2018) on a Chinese site with labels showing the manufacturing year. These two appear to already support UHD, but will they work with MakeMKV or be flashable if needed?
Thanks,
Nick

The 212V can for sure be flashed. Regarding the S11 and 211 it might be possible that someone flashed them to newer firmware than Dec. 2022 and then they won't work anymore for UHD. The Verbatim 43888 is an alternative that works out-of-the-box.Nick-P wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 6:07 amHi,

LG / ASUS drives are worse readers but are ripping faster but they also tend to die early.

Update: I'm back to considering the BDR-212V vs Verbatim 43888 for UHD (due to scammy Chinese sellers).
