What software do you use to burn your Blu-rays or DVDs?

Post by Tristanna » Thu Oct 31, 2024 9:34 pm

Everyone uses MakeMKV to extract ISO files or Folders... but then what?

What's the best software for burning Blu-rays or DVDs from an ISO file?
I've seen names like Imgburn but what are the burning parameters for Blu-ray?

Thanks for your answers

Burning is what we did before yesterday. It's expensive and discs are getting worse. Do not continue to burn but store on HDD.

I only burn CDDA, I use cdrdao+cdrtools and K3B for GUi.

I only burn CDDA when I've transfer exclusive LaserDisc CDDA albums like 10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged*. As long as it's not a 4K UHD you can use just about anything but, for 4K UHD apparently you can/must use ImgBurn, sadly it's Windows only :-( But again, unless it's lossless CDDA coming from a LaserDisc, I don't burn anything.

* There is a CD version but the final 3 tracks of the concert were never licensed for CD, so only the VHS and LaserDisc have the final 3 tracks with David Byrne. There is other laserdiscs like this and not just in music as exclusive movie soundtracks are even more common.

I agree. In my opinion, the time for burning larger amounts of data is over.
Especially for media files. It is time consuming, expensive and not reliable in the long run.
There are some circumstances where you may want additional physical backup of some private data in addition to HHD or cloud backup. But in this case I would never rely on the disc alone.
ImgBurn has been my favorite in the past when needed.

IMGBURN works well in most cases. You can use Makemkv's "backup" function to create a full disc backup to your PC, which will be a decrypted copy of your bluray. Then you can create an ISO image by using IMGBURN's 'image from files' function (make sure to ONLY select the folder level containing the usual Bluray structure - e.g BDMW, CERTIFICATE, etc - this is important!). After that is completed, IMGBURN should be able to burn your newly-created image file to a BD-R disc. One last tip - back ups will be huge so I always make sure to delete the initial back up and IMG afterwards. Hope this helps!
