Do I need to flash my LG BP60NB10?

Post by butyfigers » Wed Oct 16, 2024 11:13 pm

I've bought a LG BP60NB10; when connecting it to MakeMKV, I see that the revision number is 1.02.

I see on the UHD Flashing Guide that it says "BP60NB10 on any Firmware directly to > BP60NB10 1.02MK"
Since I am already on 1.02 out of the box, does that mean I don't need to flash anything?

If you want the LibreDrive benefits, then flash it to DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK.bin.

Just download Marty's SDFtoolflasher and the "All You Need Firmware Pack" from viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896 and follow the instructions to write the MK firmware binary to your drive.

as you can see, stock FW requires a patch

BP60NB10 1.02MK = "patched firmware"

If you want to rip UHD discs, yes you need to flash it. UHD disc ripping requires LibreDrive to be enabled.

Got it! Flash it for LibreDrive to enable UHD ripping capability; the discs I tried today were just normal Blu-Rays so I suppose I'm good to go for now until I get my hands on any UHD Blu-Ray discs.

I thought the stock 1.02 was the same as 1.02MK but 1.02MK is the flashed firmware that enables LibreDrive for UHD? (am I understanding that correctly?)

1.02MK is the modified firmware that enables libredrive.

Libredrive is required for UHD discs but also removes the ability for your drive to be revoked if you insert a standard Blu-ray disc with a higher MKB/AACS revision. This could happen with any new release.

IMO, better to flash it and have libredrive enabled then you don't have to worry about any of that.

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with this all, what do you mean by "removes the ability for your drive to be revoked if you insert a standard Blu-ray disc with a higher MKB/AACS revision"?

Without libredrive, if you insert a new release blu-ray disc that has a newer MKB/AACS version that what MakeMKV has, your drive will be revoked and you won't be able to rip any new blu-ray discs until there is an updated version of MakeMKV. Better to flash it now to enable libredrive than take that risk, especially if you are ripping new release movies.

Thank you! I've flashed my stock drive of E: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP60NB10_1.02_212107081556_SIM04O7393302 directly to DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK.bin
Other than trying to rip more discs, is there a way to tell that I did it correctly? In MakeMKV it now looks like

Hello,

I am having problems trying to get libredrive to be set to enabled. This is the current status reported in Makemkv ..

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP60NB10
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2120-05-07 09:35
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 72

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

I have already tried patching using the file DE_LG_BP60NB10-NB12_1.02-MK.bin this is reported as having successfully patched the drive but the status has not changed as you can see. Am I doing something wrong and or have a missed out a step. Please advise ?
