Need Help Finding Affordable 2nd drive

Post by Cultural-Climate9187 » Wed Oct 16, 2024 8:17 pm

I have The Verbatim 43888 And it works fine however there are some discs im beginning to think would do better with a second drive to try to rip. (Usually the big collections) Most of the time i can rip it all but lately i have bought Once Upon a Time Season 1-7 collection and had to return twice since 1st time round S5D1 didn't rip, S5D3 Didn't rip and now my 3rd time buying S4D2 Refuses to rip (going back through the seasons to ensure it works. Luckily first time i notice and issue because i completed my collection so i started back on S5D1 and went forward to D3 Then i completed ripping to season 7 and went back because im so anal about backing up my media.)

Either Way im going to hazard a guess and say either im extremely unlucky or I need another drive to compare from what i can tell its not a power issue because its consistent on the one disc but fine for all others so either I clean the disc and check for scratches the first 2 times i saw some extremely minor scratches this time i can see something but its so faint and its vertical on the disc, either way want to see if another drive will do any better. I don't have a huge budget and will require some sort of external power to connect to PC via USB since there is no room in the case.

Thanks for reading my garbled thoughts hope for help :)

Pioneer drives are still the recommend drives. Try contacting a seller in your region for one.

'Internal' drives can be put in an external case and connected via USB. For example: the Vantec NexStar DX2.

I have this drive.. at first I think i connected it through my keyboard usb extension and it would rip most discs but struggle with some (brand new discs). After this i moved the drive and directly connected it to one of my usb-3 ports and it stopped having issues. Ive read that this drive is power hungry so might be worth it to try swapping ports if you haven't already done so.
