Can't read AACS VID from disc

I just started using makemkv and it seems like a very good tool. however I get the error message when I try to read a bluray disc.

Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive

I have a PLDS DH-4B1S with 7D16 firmware

I am thinking it is a hardware issue because it also give me issues when playing a movie with powerdvd, but all is well as long as I have any DVD running.

can anyone tell me for sure if this is hardware or just something I am doing wrong.

If your problem is related to ONE specific original, commercial Blu-ray disc, what is the title and Region?

I have tried 3 movies, ninja assassin, blue crush 2, and the A-Team. all are region 1

Re you using a "regular" BD drive? This does look like drive issue.

the drive I am using is a BD-RE. ya I am thinking it is a drive issue, as I do more research I see a lot of other people getting replacement drives.
