Hi, think of purchasing Pioneer BDR-S13E-X. I live in the UK. Will this drive come with a firmware compatible with LibreDrive upgrade?

Thanks

Martin

Very likely the firmware that comes on it will be too new to work with MakeMKV. Also, the firmware can't be downgraded. Your best bet is to buy a drive from Asmcom, the seller in the UK.

I just purchased a Pioneer BDR-S13U-X because I had previously read that this was the best drive for UHD disks. It arrived today so I was researching and downloading stuff I needed to flash it..when I read that Pioneer disabled the ability on newer drives. My drive was manufactured on Oct 2023. Do I need to send it back?

You could never rip SACD with makemkv and probably never will be able to.

Also that drive will never rip SACD as well as most drives some early ps3's can and if you jailbreak it with cfw or hen you could rip it.

Btw your pioneer fw is to new to do UHD if you want one with old fw see below

Thanks, will check out your drives. What's the easiest way to check the FW on these drives? Do I have to download the Windows FW updater or does MakeMKV show the FW on these drives or another way?

Also does the serial number or date of manf. give some kind of indication on the ability to rip?

thats the FW date needs to be before 12/22 on pioneer.

do not download a fw updater you will only be worse off.

I have noticed yesterday that all Pioneer optical drives are now showing "currently unavailable" on Amazon UK. A few days back you could buy up to 30 pieces per model. Certainly did not sell out, but some king of earthquake must have happened. It was one of the very few places in UK/Europe where you could buy them.

Read a few posts where some say not anything after 12/22 and others saying 12/22 or later

I bought a Pioneer BDR-S13UBK with the 12-12-22 date (It does blu-ray just fine.) so I am gather this drive will not work for a firmware update for UHD.

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S13U
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2022-12-12
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9201
Firmware version: ID43

~~
Call this a 2 part question.

I also own the LG WH16NS40 manufactures in 2021, no firmware updates. For this one if I could get pointed in the correction direction for updating this firmware to run UHD on MKV I would appreciate.

Like said I do appreciate

Most drives are available again on Amazon.
Probably not UHD friendly, but available again.

I sent a query to Pioneer asking why no drive was available and have not yet received a response. Very strange.

I'm betting a statement from Pioneer will not be forthcoming, as they deliberately crippled compatibility.
