error message using virtual drive

Post by CarlFredricksen » Fri Aug 23, 2024 7:30 am

I downloaded MakeMKV today for the first time to test it. I put an ISO file of a Blu-ray into the virtual drive (clone drive) and wanted to open it with MakeMKV. But I get an error message:

AACS VID cannot be read - most likely the AACS host certificate is cancelled by your drive

The volume key for the DVD/Blu-ray is unknown - the video cannot be decrypted
Opening the disc failed

With other programmes such as AnyMP4 or Leawo Prof. Media everything works without any problems.
What can I do to make MakeMKV work?

Do you have an actual optical drive? Does MakeMKV work with a disc in the drive?

Is it any different, if you open the ISO file directly with MakeMKV? Just go File -> Open Files and navigate to the ISO.

I only have a DVD drive on my PC. Would that also work?
It makes no difference whether I open the ISO file via the virtual drive or select it directly.

A DVD drive will only read DVDs (and probably audio CDs). It won't work with a blu-ray, which uses a different laser wavelength than DVDs.

I know. I only wrote it because you asked if I have a Blu-ray drive on my PC. I have one on another, create ISO files there and then edit them on my Office PC, where MakeMKV is installed.
