Weird issue when trying to rip a new DVD

Post by six_eared_wolf »

I tried everything that I could before deciding to post here for some advice.

First, this DVD I received from Japan is new and wanted to create a backup. Whenever I tried using MakeMKV, it only said "Backup failed" and the log said this "Calculated BUP offset for VTS #1 does not match one in IFO header.
Backup failed"
Still, pressed the button to extract the files instead of making a backup and it only showed the extras of the DVD which it ripped flawlessly and looked like this

Second, I tried DVD Decrypter as an alternative and the software mentioned that the DVD is region 2 but my optical drive is Region 1 and is one of those that is unable to change regions. Don't know if this affects in any capacity.

Third, I tried copying the contents from the DVD using windows' file explorer and it worked until 3.something GB and then it started copying at a snail pace, I'm not sure if I want to wait an entire day or more for a double layer disc.

Fourth, the files that I copied succesfully looked like this. https://imgur.com/npOpbMx. The audio wasn't in good quality either, it sounds distorted and it pops constantly.

Fifth, in those files that it copied succesfully, one was one of the extras and looked distorted as well. I'm really confused by this, if MakeMKV didn't have a problem ripping them, why is it that opening the DVD contents directly make them look like that?

As of right now I'm not sure what is going on. MakeMKV doesn't have a problem when it comes to opening the disc but only shows the previously mentioned extras and nothing else. The DVD is in mint condition and doesn't have any scratches on the surface. I really want to create a backup of this DVD or at least, rip all the files, yet, every alternative that I tried hasn't been succesful. Any advice?

MakeMKV has different opening modes for DVDs. I wonder if trying a different mode would let MakeMKV see the main title?
