IPC Error

#1 Post by mm8718 » Fri Aug 09, 2024 1:38 pm

Hi Team

Recently i started getting IPC errors on most discs i have been trying to copy. It could be my drive but i hope not. Up until a few weeks ago all was great.

Has there been a change on the MacOS side? I run this drive BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-S12U 1.01 BBDL006310WLd on a powered OWC external enclosure and i have not had any issues with it.

MacOS is latest Sonoma 14.5 and running on an M2 Pro Mac Mini.

The MacMini is set to not sleep. Hopefully i dont need a new drive as this one was very expensive here in the UK if i can still get it that is. It is 4k capable from the factory so no need to patch it or anything.

I should add the MacOS itself looses the drive as well and i need to restart it to see it again - so it would imply a power issue https://www.makemkv.com/errors/ipc/
Thoughts?

I did exactly that as i was using a third party power supply, rated the same as the original. Plugged in the original, same issue. It has been fine since January. I only replaced the power supply as it was making a whining noise (working but noisy). So it seems neither the third party or first party power supply is good enough. I will try to run it on my windows laptop and see if it makes a difference

Even Windows is giving me a timeout error so at least we know its not the OS

Could it be:
The Drive
The Enclosure?
The Power supply (tried 2 already)
The Discs? They are all 4k versions of James Bond films

Here's the windows errors:

Saving 1 titles into directory C:/Video/OCTOPUSSY
Error 'Scsi error - HARDWARE ERROR:441E' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00882.m2ts' at offset '1834745856'
Error 'OS error - {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on hs was not completed before the time-out period expired' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00882.m2ts' at offset '1834874880'
Error 'Internal error - Operation result is incorrect (78)' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '1834874880'
Error 'OS error - {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on hs was not completed before the time-out period expired' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '1834874880'

Hi - for future reference and as a follow up, i am begginign to think it is a failed drive in my case. I replaced my OWC enclosure with the latest Vantec NexStar DX2 and the drive still gives me read errors and medium errors on a different disc entirely.

, it would appear i am in the market for a new drive. Sadly you can no longer purchase the BD-RW BDR-S12U over here in the UK, at least nowhere i can easily order it so looking to buy from asmcom. Let me know of any other reasonable options for UK buyers if any UK person is reading this. I can easily get theBDR-213EBK but i dont think it will work!

Thanks all

Thanks Billy

I since went ahead and purchased the 43888 Verbatim which has a BDR UD04 in it but i am having no luck either - just posted a new topic a minute ago. Will try a few more discs and see what happens but i seem to be very unlucky.

I reached out to Asmcom earlier in the week and hope he can back and feeling better.

Wash your discs with warm water and liquid soap.

The 43888 is very power hungry. Make sure it gets enough.

Buy a laser cleaning CD for your S12 and clean the laser lens.
