Blu-ray drive no longer works for UHD rips in makemkv like it used to (LG BH16NS55)
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help, My Blu-ray drive no longer works for UHD rips in makemkv like it used to (LG BH16NS55).
I insert disc, then open up MakeMKV and it says loading then it says no disc.
Where could I be going wrong, Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Nick

Do standard Blu-ray discs still work? If not, the blue laser may have died.nickdgreen0 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:27 amHi,

Yes, standard blu-rays still work.

- Clean the disc with warm water and liquid soap. Finally wipe with a microfiber cloth.
- You can try to flash your drive to WH16NS60 1.02 if it is a problem to read-in the disc. This firmware has less problems doing so.

How would I go about flashing drive to WH16NS60 1.02?, is there a guide I can follow to get me started?

Pull the power out the back of the bd drive, then plug it back in. This cured my LG drive of numerous issues.
Or if the rear of the drive isn’t reachable, turn off the pc and pull the power out to do a full shutdown so the motherboard goes off.

I'm not the OP, but I was having the exact same problem last week with my BH16NS55 however mine was already on firmware WH16NS60 1.02
I hadn't used it in 6+ months, but got it out last week and ripped a Bluray just fine, but for a UHD disc MakeMKV simply said "no disc". I didn't get to troubleshoot it last week, but I just tried it again today... and it seems to be recognising UHD discs again
My setup: MakeMKV is running within a Debian 12 VM on Proxmox, with the BH16NS55 passed through via a SATA-to-USB adaptor. The Debian VM hasn't had any recent updates, but the Proxmox host did has the following updates done yesterday:
Install: proxmox-kernel-6.8.8-4-pve-signed:amd64 (6.8.8-4, automatic)
Upgrade: bind9-host:amd64 (1:9.18.24-1, 1:9.18.28-1~deb12u2), pve-firmware:amd64 (3.12-1, 3.13-1), libpve-guest-common-perl:amd64 (5.1.3, 5.1.4), proxmox-kernel-6.8:amd64 (6.8.8-2, 6.8.8-4), ifupdown2:amd64 (3.2.0-1+pmx8, 3.2.0-1+pmx9), qemu-server:amd64 (8.2.1, 8.2.3), bind9-dnsutils:amd64 (1:9.18.24-1, 1:9.18.28-1~deb12u2), proxmox-firewall:amd64 (0.4.2, 0.5.0), bind9-libs:amd64 (1:9.18.24-1, 1:9.18.28-1~deb12u2)
Note sure if any of that helps, but hopefully the OP has some luck too!

Re: Blu-ray drive no longer works for UHD rips in makemkv like it used to (LG BH16NS55)
I have a seagate bd015 external drive that works with some bluray discs and not others (copying the ripped dvds to an external hard drive for easier tv viewing). In fact, when I attempt to load these discs, my windows 7 system won't even recognize the drive. Makemkv just seems to cycle, then errors with No Disc. I thought it might be the unit, so I replaced it with the same brand/model with no luck. I have researched forums with keydb.cfg and other files but it seemed everyone had a different place the dlls needed to be. If anyone could point me in the right direction or has a fix I can try, i'd greatly appreciate it. thanks
