Do I only need to worry about the drive if I want to rip 4k? Or is blu ray also included? And I guess on that vain dvd as well?
If these drives are no good for even blu ray are there any good alternatives?
Also seen some mention of BW-16D1X-U

In February 2023, Pioneer updated their firmware to disable LibreDrive support, which is necessary for ripping 4K UHDs.

Without LibreDrive, the drives will rip DVDs and regular blu-rays but not 4K UHDs.
Your best bet is to buy a Pioneer drive from a seller in your region. They can still source new drives with old firmware that'll work with MakeMKV.
