i am on lion mac mini 2.3ghz using external bluray drive

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MRSSBD6X/

i even downloaded a player to make sure to obtain any keys needed

i also installed the daspi extension included

i was accessing the disk directly from the disk not from a folder pre copied to the desktop


and the finder will not allow copying the files

and i get the following error with version 1.6.14

In light of the fact that this Blu-ray disc was released in either 2007 or 2009, it's almost certain that your problem has nothing to do with copy protection.

Have you had ANY success making Blu-ray backups (either Full Disc or movie-only .MKVs) with your present system?

this is my first movie.

in fact i bought the movie as a guinea pig for testing rippers.

it has to be copy protection because the error strings say copy protection and revoke.

if it is not copy protection then what is causing the errors?

also in the future it would be nice if you could be able to read off iso images.

i have discovered that you can copy the disk to an image via prosoft's data rescue it has a drive cloner that makes iso images of optical drives too.

MakeMKV CAN read directly from proper .ISO image files - Do NOT mount the image!

One distinct possibility is a damaged or dirty disc.

1) Did you purchase this 2007/2009 disc as "New" or "Used"?

2) Have you PLAYED the disc (from start to finish) on both your computer and standalone player? If so, did it play without exhibiting any anomalous behavior?

i got it back in 2007 to 2009 range (walmart usually never keeps movies more than a few weeks after release).

it is new i bought it as a test for and it sat collecting dust ( i wiped off the dust before playing)

my only blu ray player os the drive i bought because the 2011 mac mini does not have a dvd drive.

i bought it when i discovered ( i thought) the drive in the 2005 mac mini supported bd disks.

my guess maybe is some kind of revocation of keys.

it would be nice if future versions would emulate the blu ray player so it would receive and keep the keys.

another feature that would be nice is if the buffers could be sand boxed (completely isolated and not allowed to execute code in them (some copy protections deploy software on the disk designed to crash the ripper).

no i did not play it completely i only played it on the computer long enough to grab the keys.

i have learned from the mtr forums that a dvd needs to be played for a few seconds to get the keys.

i do not have a stand alone blu ray dvd player

1) So you've done nothing to determine whether your original, commercial Blu-ray disc plays properly, or is perhaps flawed

2) You don't have to do anything to "Grab the keys", other than load the disc and run MakeMKV

that's right because by taking it to a stand alone blu ray player defeats my purpose of ripping it.


and if you read the error report you would see that there are authentication,key and other errors

Your drive rejects an AACS auth with this disc. I would blame the disc.
Also, you normally should be able to copy files from disc in finder - if you can't then it is also an indication of problem.
