I'm looking to buy a UHD friendly Blu-ray drive and I want to make sure it has the right drive platform before making the purchase. How can I verify if the drive has the correct drive platform?

If you're buying a new LG or ASUS drive from a reputable retailer, it will almost assuredly be the correct drive platform. If by some chance it isn't, because it is a reputable retailer, you can return it.
If you're buying used on eBay or whatever, it is a bit riskier and you need a drive manufactured in 2016 or later.
If you want a new Pioneer, your best bet is to buy from a seller in your region.
A Pioneer is probably the best drive currently available.
