Question regarding MakeMKV output consistancy

#1 Post by Guin3a P1gg » Wed May 15, 2024 9:37 pm

I am sick and tired of having to go through and manually find and rename all of these extras on the discs I have for plex and whatnot. So I'm working on a python program to do that for me.

The idea is there is a collective database (beeeeeg yaml file) that has the dvd/bluray barcode number associated with specific file names, that then renames them as needed.

Anywya my question is, does MakeMKV have consistent naming between disks? For example, if I and another person buy the same dvd, and run i through Make MKV, will the file names be the same between the DVDs when MakeMKV rips them before renaming? thanks!

If you chose the same settings, yes. If not, MAYBE.

But, why?

Because MakeMKV counts up titles by what you chose as the minimum size to rip. The default is "over 30 seconds", so only titles that are at least 30 seconds will be counted. 29? 28? Ignore!

But I have mine set at 120 seconds, so anything less than that is ignored, and my numbers will ignore anything up to that length, so a disk full of extras won't have the same count as if I used 30. Others use 300 or 600 (5 or 10 minutes) for their minimums. That REALLY screws up counts for "extras".

Maybe take a look at https://thediscdb.com, a site created by user lfoust for this very purpose. https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=137364#p137364
