Hello,

I recently picked up a newer release of Cemetery Man in 4K from Severin
https://severinfilms.com/products/cemet ... se-booklet

First disc in many years of using MakeMKV that I have been unable to rip.
MakeMKV v1.17.6 win(x64-release) started
Error 'OS error - Access is denied' occurred while creating 'C:/Program Files (x86)/MakeMKV/MKB20_v77_save.tgz'
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.3 id=7FC45AF98B4B)
Using direct disc access mode
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Error 'OS error - Access is denied' occurred while creating 'C:/Program Files (x86)/MakeMKV/MKB20_v77_CEMETERY_MAN_UHD_D0AE.tgz'
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc

I emailed the resulting tgz file to svq@makemkv.com about a week ago and am still unable to rip.
Any suggestions or insight? I do notice that the tgz file I emailed has a different file name of "MKB20_v76_save.tgz"

Thanks for any advice.

The file you submitted seems to be the same as the one that was submitted in December, so it is probably a case where your system isn't able to download the later file. The fact that Windows complained about writing the TGZ file could mean that you're being blocked from writing... which would actually be normal if you're trying to save things to the MakeMKV program directory.

Where do you have MakeMKV writing to? This would be in Preferences->General, the "MakeMKV data directory". Your MakeMKV program directory SHOULD be unwritable, except during installs.

Hello--thanks for having a look at my problem.

My data directory is C:/Program Files (x86)/MakeMKV
The default destination for rips is a different drive altogether Y:\Works in Progress

I have used MakeMKV for years, so this is a first.
The accompanying blu-ray (non-4K) disc ripped fine, so it just seems to be the 4K disc having issues.

I tried moving the parent private_data.tar directory elsewhere and starting clean, but same result.
Moved it back, same result.

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Your comment got me thinking...

I tried running MakeMKV as administrator... even though my account IS an administrator. And it does seem to be ripping properly now.
I have ripped hundreds of discs without ever having this issue, so... no idea why this particular disc required it.

But thank you--your comment helped me in the right direction.
