Following the CoreElect Dolby Vision development with great excitement.
Can someone please explain the difference between Profile 7 Dolby Vision DTDL FEL vs STDL FEL?

Have I understood correctly that a UHD disc with Profile 7 DTDL FEL remuxed to mkv with Profile 7 STDL FEL is a lossless conversion? And that the dual-track dual-layer FEL of the UHD are just "merged" into one single-track dual-layer FEL? And if the conversion is lossless, is it also possible to do the conversion the other way? (STDL -> DTDL).

Asking because I'm thinking about replacing my old OPPO UDP-203 (playing BDMV structures today) and I'm wondering if I get the exact same quality from converting UHD BDMV backups to mkv's and using an UGOOS instead?

Thanks in advance :-)

yes it's the same quality. It's just two different ways of muxing profile 7.

Is cmv4.0 and cmv2.9 supported by ugoos? And is the plex app getting a update via internet or does it get only updated with the new version of coreelec?

Of course, it supports the latest CM version.
Ugoos + Coreelect is KODI only. There's no PLEX app but you can use an addon that will give you access to your PLEX library but the app playing the movies is always KODI.

so before buying a new TV, is there a need to check for CMv4 support? I've not seen a spec sheet that goes to that level of detail.
They don't make new TVs with older cmv2.9 chip anymore. So any TV after 2019 is most likely cmv4.0

thanks for the follow-up. So might older players like the Panny UP-BD820 and Oppo 203 be only CM v2.9, or does this really only matter at the display end of the chain?

the player must support it otherwise it fallback to the cmv2.9 bloc. This is why the ugoos is a big deal, only device that support both CMV4.0 and P7 FEL

thanks. So are P7 discs being released that have CMv4.0 metadata in addition to the 2.9, even though UHD players like the Oppo 203 and Panny 820 don't support 4.0 ?

Having run the Ugoos for a week now I've really been impressed by its DV playback of my P7 mkv files, my Panny 820 is going to be gathering dust from now on.

Same Ugoos experience here. I thought I'd abandoned my AM6+ forever, but latest CoreElec certainly revived this machines usage.
Enjoying DoVi like never before.

Yes, its still rare but it seems there's more cmv40 bluray release lately.
Also, when the bluray is only MEL cmv2.9, I take the cmv4.0 rpu from web streaming.

I know you said at one time you were taking your SDR 1080p and reencoding as HDR10 with DV you made IIRC - what about DV4 (SDR I think) - you ever look into making that? I can't even recall any real world examples found, so prob not, just asking.

Well P4 is a dual-layer format and I don't think there's any public tool that can do that.
Also, the EL probably would need to be graded to HDR otherwise that would be just SDR-100nits in a DV/HDR container.

RESET_9999 or someone else who might know..

I have a Sony A9G 77" OLED from 2019, i used to be into this discussion and DV development for like a year or two after getting the TV.
Not so much anymore, so im trying to read up.

As far as i can remember, this TV does NOT have player-led (might be wrong)

Is there a point in me upgrading my SHIELD to Ugoos who can play FEL?
Will there be a difference on my TV?
Im guessing yes, cause its the Ugood doing the encoding, and my TV just showing it, yes?

Thanks guys

Shield suffers from red push, so pretty much any other option will be a better option.
