ASUS BD-12D1S-U external drive with pioneer bdr-209

Post by figdc » Sun Jan 14, 2024 8:21 pm

Hi,

I'm new to flashing drives and am reading a lot of conflicting information about my drive specifically. I have an Asus BD-12D1S-U external drive that contains a pioneer bdr-209. Is it at all possible to flash or cross flash this drive to work with UHD discs?

Hi,

I have the same drive in the ASUS enclosure, but mine is a little old. I removed the drive from the enclosure and connected it directly to SATA to hopefully make flashing easier, but I can easily add it back.

Here is the Makemkv info for my drive:

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-12D1S-U
Revision: E401
Serial number: OEDL054695WL
Firmware date: 2013-09-10
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information

Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8600
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-209
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: E401/ID44
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

I am guessing that the drive hardware is too old, but wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

Same applies to you. Too many one-night-stands that disappear. I'm sick and tired of these.

Hi Coopervid,

I have the same model as the other users in this thread. I purchased a license for MakeMKV but this forum doesn't allow new registrants with a low post count to initiate PMs.

Could you kindly send me a PM and I will respond promptly with the complete MakeMKV info. Thanks for offering to help us!

Please copy & paste your Makemkv information here (just the text from the status). You are not yet allowed to send PMs therefore that doesn't work.

Success! Nice! Tested Bram Stoker's Dracula 4K and it plays just fine in VLC with menus.

There's a lot of posts scattered across the net saying this drive would be incapable of being flashed to read 4k disks. Thankful to have stumbled upon this thread and Coopervid's generosity of assistance. Thanks again!
