Hey guys,
I have been using MakeMKV for a few years with my Pioneer BDR-205 drive, in an enclosure from OWC. I connect it via firewire 800, which should be plenty fast (800 mb/s), yet I average about 2.5-3x per blu ray rip. The drive should be reading at at least 8x, but I only get about 2.5x. I have upgraded the firmware and it increased the speed slightly to about 3.5x. Based on what I have read this is a common issue with MakeMKV. This drive should not have rip lock, so I am a little confused! I have also increased the buffer to 2gb. Is there anything else I can do to increase the speed?
btw: I run MakeMKV on a 6 core Mac Pro with 12 gb ram, so speed shouldn't be an issue.

Re: BDR-205 Slow
No, this is a common issue with drive manufacturers lying about their rated speeds. Just because under perfect conditions your drive can reach x8, doesn't mean it's going to across the whole disc.Rmafive wrote:Based on what I have read this is a common issue with MakeMKV.

I am planning on buying a new internal blu ray drive for my Mac pro. What drive would you suggest that has pretty good speeds?crowfax wrote:No, this is a common issue with drive manufacturers lying about their rated speeds. I have no idea. I have an external Plextor BR drive. It rips at about 3x on average.

Re: BDR-205 Slow
I decided on the Pioneer BDR-206. I now can rip two simultaneously so speed is not as much of a concern anymore!
