XDG

#1 Post by QuartzColonel » Wed Feb 21, 2024 7:50 pm

Are there any plans for XDG Base Directory specification instead of automatically putting files into ~/.MakeMKV, which clutters the user's home directory? Many programs are in the midst of a shift right now, and I encourage MakeMKV devs to do the same.

https://specifications.freedesktop.org/ ... 01s02.html

Thanks!

"dumping files"? You have control over what files are dumped there. Mine has 8 files, the most recent is _private_data_tar, with just 4 being created from running the program in general (when I was doing some data collection).

I can tell the term usage may have triggered the wrong response here.
Could you confirm that you've managed to move the ~/.MakeMKV folder to another location, such as ~/.config?

I'm looking to have nothing in the home, sorry for the misusage of the terms above!

Circling back on this one, can the folder ~/.MakeMKV be moved to, say ~/.config/MakeMKV?

The General tab of MakeMKV's preferences allows one to set the data directory to where ever you like.
