So - I've been able to make good 3D rips, but have encountered one disc issue. How to Train Your Dragon (2010) will not complete an MVC rip no matter what I try. I've tried different releases of the film also. I've had no issues completiing rips from HTTYD 2 and 3, but the first film appears to be a no-go. I'm assuming this is an issue with copyright protection, but I have no idea how to get around it.

Any thoughts?

My 3D copy of How to Train Your Dragon ripped just fine, guessing you have a bad disc. Maybe try cleaning it?

Yes, this can be done. I assume what you're attempting to do is rip a 3D Blu-ray to something like a HDD or SSD, plug that in via USB, and play back the frame-packed 3D Blu-ray on your standalone player on your 3DTV. This is easy as hell, but PICKY as hell. SO easy in fact that I couldn't believe it was something so simple, but I've tested this now with several discs, and it has worked every time.

1. Rip just the movie file with MakeMKV, and make sure you check the MVC video stream. All of that we knew...
2. Open the resulting MKV file with tsmuxer and export to m2ts. Now - HERE'S the VITAL step that makes the file work...when you load up the MKV file into tsmuxer, the MVC video is in Position 1 by default. You MUST highlight the MVC video and move it down to Position 2. THAT'S IT. That's the whole damned problem. I don't know why this is a thing, but it is. Once you get your m2ts file, just throw it on your USB drive, and your player will play it back just like a 3D Blu-ray disc, auto-detecting the 3D signal and all. Hope this helps!
Thank you croweyes1121, this 100% works on my Mede8er MED600X3D! Just watched Blade Runner 2049 in 3D for the first time!

This is PURE GOLD and exactly what's wrong. Thank you for this! Now I have two questions that have come up. Can MakeMKV work on region B 3d movies if I am in region A for example? And the other question is I have a few of the MovieNEX 3d blurays like Quantumania and Black Widow that won't work because some software is missing. (I forget the name but it ends with a + sign) How do I get that installed and is that the only thing I am missing?

Yes, other region discs will work.

I'm not sure what's going on there. I did a backup of Black Widow 3D just now and stereoscopic playback worked fine on mpc-hc.

This is the error message... (nothing to do with the blahblah+ apparently... lol)

AACS directory not present, assuming unencrypted disc
This disc requires Java runtime (JRE), but none was found. Certain functions will fail, please install Java. See http://www.makemkv.com/bdjava/ for details.

Using Java runtime from C:\Program Files\Java\jre-1.8\bin\java.exe

The software was Java Runtime and that didn't make it work after installing it.

So that must mean that this copy I have will not allow me to make a backup copy?
It just sits there and the time to complete just climbs from 1m up to 1hr and I shut it off...
Am I just not being patient enough or is it truly in the eternal spiral of death?

First, do you know if that's a legit disc? Official discs almost always come with AACS encryption.
The blurays that I've seen from Disney/Marvel do not use BD+ and also do not require Java to help rip it.

Are you able to directly view BDMV\STREAM\00800.m2ts without having to decrypt?

What does MakeMKV show for the disc information? The 3D disc is only officially sold from Japan, so these specs should match exactly. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure your disc is a bootleg that has extra elements that could interfere with the rip.
Disc Information
Label: MARVEL_STUDIOS_BLACK_WIDOW

Protection: AACS v75
Data capacity: 44.22 Gb

Number of layers: 2
Channel bit length: 74,5 nm (25.0 GB max. per layer)

So is it impossible to get a quality rip from this anyway since it is only 15GB?

It won't be full quality like a legit 44gb disc, but whether it's considered a quality rip is a personal opinion.

I'll assume it's not completely garbage (like YouTube levels of suck), but seeing 00800.m2ts should give a rough idea for the encode's overall quality. And that's just the video for one eye. The file 00801.m2ts is the other eye's MVC data (and it's normal for it to have a lower file size).

Aha, so is it possible to use the tsMuxeR to combine those into a single m2ts file? Everything I have done so far using that software ends up creating a single m2ts file that is very convenient and my Sony player detects the 3D in one file and plays it correctly.

I'm doing that now actually! The 800 file has everything but the MVC and the 801 is the MVC... and key is to put it in 2nd position!
Thanks you have helped me understand the full process now of how this works!

Is the file number always 800 and 801 or does that change depending upon who manufactured the disc?

Yeah, tsMuxeR should be able to do it. Just import PLAYLIST\00800.mpls and it should pick up everything as usual.

It depends on the studio. Disney likes to use 800 as the starting number for playlists which is nice. But for m2ts being 800 too is a coincidence.

Yes! Both of the other BD-R movie files (Ant Man 3- Quantumania, Thor- Love and Thunder) were 00000.m2ts and 00001.m2ts. So, I just had to look for the two largest files on the disc.
