Hunt For Red October 4K Steelbook 30th Anniversary Ed.

#1 Post by whwmkv2 » Tue Jan 30, 2024 8:55 pm

Purchased above title the other day and the disc plays fine in both a Panasonic UHD player and in VLC for Windows 11 on my desktop computer (where MakeMKV is installed).
Strangely enough I cannot get MakeMKV to rip it.
The app gets about 2 minutes into the rip and the UHD drive slows to a crawl (100 kb/s) and eventually throws sync errors and hash check error.
I read the little blivit about hash check errors, but my drive has been working fine since I got it, and this is the only DVD that has given me read errors and I have done several CDs, DVDs, Blurays (1080/4K) over the last few weeks and others after trying this one.
Oddly enough I was able to convert it via VLC but want a full uncompressed copy.

Not sure what to do next, have even reinstalled MakeMKV and that has not helped.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like the disk is dirty or damaged. Does cleaning it help?

Wipped it down with a microfiber cloth, will try soap and water.
Had to do that a few times in the distant past.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Replaced disc with a new copy and no issues.
