(Partially) unable to extract 7.1 DTS lossless

Post by mac-media »

Hello,
thank you for this software which works fine except one issue, which causes me not only to read in this forum but also to share my experiences.
I do have an audio problem with MakeMKV and BluRay Discs. May be the problem is related to this topic:

http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3874

When I backup a BD I am not able to safe the 7.1 HD-Audio track of the German language.
I do backup the HD-lossless the DTS-Core and the extra DTS tracks in German and English

As result my ..mkv File has 6 audio tracks. When I compare the audio information, 5 tracks show identical information in the track info of the BluRay and the track info of the .mkv.
Otherwise the German HD-audio looks totally different. Since the English HD is OK I think I haven't made any mistakes.

Here is an abstract of the info’s I've gathered:

Code: Select all

BD Info in MAKEMKV: vs. .MKV Info in VLC
Spurinformationen Spurinformationen
Typ: Audio Typ: Audio
Name: HRA XXCH Name: HRA XXCH
Sprache:German Sprache:German
Codec: DTS-HD Codec: DTS Audio (dts)
Kan?le:8 Kan?le 3F2R LFE
Abtastrate: 48000 kHz Bitrate: 1536 Bit/s
Bits pro Sample: 24 Bits pro Sample: 24

Spurinformationen Spurinformationen
Typ: Audio Typ: Audio
Name: HRA XXCH Name: HRA XXCH
Sprache:English Sprache:English
Codec: DTS-HD Codec: DTS-HD
Kan?le:8 Kan?le:8
Abtastrate: 48000 kHz Abtastrate: 48000 kHz
Bits pro Sample: 24 Bits pro Sample: 24
I've tested it with following BluRay on OSX and Windows XP. In MakeMKV 1.6.8 and 1.6.12. Always with identical results:

Fight Club
Leon
Bank Job

I haven't tested it with an 5.1 DTS-HD Audio BluRay. The BD-Player is an external Panasonic BD-UJ 240.

Any advices?

Thank you in advance mac-media

DTS-HD is an umbrella name for 3 different codecs: XXCH (lossy encoding for more than 5 channels), LBR (lossy encoding of low-bitrate audio) and XLL ( master audio, lossless encode for any audio). In your case you have DTS-HD XXCH and not the common DTS-HD XLL also known as DTS-HD MA. Vlc can only see the core audio, hence 5.1 channels.

Presently, there is no open-source decoder capable to decode any form of DTS-HD.

Hello Mike,

thank you for your answer.

Meanwhile I’ve used “mediainfo”. I found out, that the HD-Streams are still there.
Now, your answer is giving me an illustrative explanation.

Greetings, mac-media
