Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
@RESET_9999, from that GH link you shared I learnt how to unpack LG firmware for my TV. Currently browsing it, unsure if I'll find something relevant to our DV discussions (tmax,...).

So we have only one device capable of true TV led and is the Apple TV and, of course, the UHD BD players (Oppo, Sony etc)RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 6:53 pmBetter color mapping, maybe? but I wouldn't say LLDV has inaccurate colors as long as the player doesn't have bugs (shield red push) and Chroma Weight is not used by the colorist.
For Player Led (LLDV) we have more players (shield, homatics, ugoos, Firestick etc) But none of them is without problems (inaccurate colours, inaccurate EOTF tracking, inaccurate brigtness rendering etc.).
Correct?
So, BD players apart, maybe the best device presently is the ATV with Infuse.

Yes, it's either the ATV: I'm pretty sure cmv4.0 is broken and all my TV-LED measurements from the ATV were noticeably darker than the Shield and X800m2
or the Shield: Red push, lots of dropped frames, Resume is buggy, the UI is not great and also buggy.
On my end, I switched to Kodi C2 internal app with MKV and I use my X800m2 only for FEL or when the lossless audio is important (action movies).

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Aside from chroma weight what is wrong with LLDV? Does it have all those issues ragico stated? Or are those issues just with those other players like the shield, the firestick and those others he mentioned?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 11:43 pmYes, it's either the ATV: I'm pretty sure cmv4.0 is broken and all my TV-LED measurements from the ATV were noticeably darker than the Shield and X800m2

Of course is a matter of choice. I cannot stand the shield problems and have sold it months ago. I can live with the P8 cm2.9 in Infuse and hope that Apple will also add support for P8 cm4.0. As for lossless audio, Apple converts everything in PCM but the quality is excellent to my ears. So, as you, I use the X800m2 only for Fel and for Dolby Atmos when needed, my Sonos soundbar does not support Dts HD/Dts XRESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 11:43 pmYes, it's either the ATV: I'm pretty sure cmv4.0 is broken and all my TV-LED measurements from the ATV were noticeably darker than the Shield and X800m2

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
The difference between Player-led and TV-led Dolby Vision is significant on a calibrated/capable display:
- For Player-led (or Fake TV-led in this conversation), the player only knows a small amount about the display through the HDMI EDID handshake, primarily MaxCLL. This is not enough information to fully dynamically tone map. This is better than static metadata HDR10 but leaves most dynamic tone mapping capabilities on the table since a display's characteristics are more complicated than just its max luminance and/or max APL.
- For TV-led, The display's 3D LUT, chromaticity+Luminance at all APL levels, near-black performance, and additional display characteristics are all considered while mapping.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
ATV already supports cmv4.0 P8 and as I said, it doesn't work well. In TV-LED it is not as bad as this but I still can see it: https://slow.pics/c/VGBhNeQU
it's fine as long as your edid is under 1000nits.

Cool thanks. What about what speeddemon said?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:49 amATV already supports cmv4.0 P8 and as I said, it doesn't work well. In TV-LED it is not as bad as this but I still can see it: https://slow.pics/c/VGBhNeQU

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Yes I know that ATV already supports cm4.0 (I did a trial a couple months ago with a mp4 played by Apple native player and it worked albeit with audio problem). Sorry for my error in the previous post, I intend to say that hope that Infuse adds support for P8 cm4.0.RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:49 amATV already supports cmv4.0 P8 and as I said, it doesn't work well. Will see what happens in next months.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
what about it?
TV-LED is preferred but that doesn't make LLDV inaccurate with the right player/setup. Dynamic is better than static...
I doubt cmv4.0 will be any different than what it is right now with the native player.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Yeah thanks, I am just asking like, does it really leave most dynamic tone mappings out? And even though TV-LED is better is there a big difference?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 1:19 amwhat about it?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I dont know, I didn't compare TV-LED to LLDV much.
My main setup(C2) is far from my lldv testing setup(cheap TV) so I can't force LLDV on my C2 (x800m2) without removing the Vertex(can force lldv) from my testing setup.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I see, I just hope I am not missing out too much by not having TV-LED.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
If you have a choice, then go TV-led. If you don't, then just use LLDV. The difference is typically substantial in my testing.
How important it is to you should depend on a wide spectrum, ranging from something like a professional colorist to being the type of person who takes a TV out of the box and leaves it in vivid mode. Only you know where you fall on that spectrum.

Is there some way to force the X700 into TV-LED?speeddemon wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 2:11 amIf you have a choice, then go TV-led. If you don't, then just use LLDV. The difference is typically substantial in my testing.
