Hey all, I have two MPEG-2 files I ripped with MakeMKV, both 1920x1080, showing up in HandBrake as 1080x1080. I went to the HandBrake forum and showed them the log it gave me, and the people there noticed that the files have a PAR of 9:16 and a display of 1:1.

Maybe there's a bug in MakeMKV now that's setting it wrong?
(I also found an MPEG-2 file I ripped years ago it looks great in HandBrake now, so don't think the issue is there.)
I'm currently re-ripping/re-HandBraking all my Blus with different settings. Both of these movies ripped/HandBraked perfectly fine years ago, so I don't think it's a disc issue.

A pixel aspect ratio of 9:16 would be a very tall pixel. That's taller than pixels on CRTs in the analog standard definition days. (https://bavc.org/par-sar-and-dar-making ... eo-pixels/)
If I had to guess, I'd say the authoring of the disc in question is weird. If you ripped this in past with an older version of MakeMKV, the likely bug was MakeMKV not honoring whatever the disc author declared for the PAR, SAR, & DAR. I would expect current MakeMKV would do a decent job at honoring that stuff, consequently exposing the weirdness of this particular disc.
