Automatic SDF Downloading failed or is disabled.

I keep having the automatic sdf downloading fail. I just started using makemkv today so bear with me while I learn it. I never disabled it unless it comes disabled out of the box for some reason. Looking through some old articles, it could be because of firewall or dns issues. I do have a pi-hole running along with it using NextDNS for filtering. Looking at both logs I am not seeing anything in the makemkv domain getting blocked unless there is some other domain. Going to https://makemkv.com/sdf.bin manually does download it without issue, but would like to have it download automatically. I am on Windows 11 Home. I did try turning Windows Defender Firewall off which did not work. Are there other domains I should whitelist? What folder do I put the manually downloaded sdf file in? Is there another file I will need to manually download and put in a folder, if so, what folder do I put the file in?

Most likely, your system is blocking looking up or accessing the HKDATA file. This is becoming more common, as more people use "safe" DNS services to protect them from evil empires, where they can do, um, "stuff".

I will go ahead and do that but looking at my DNS logs those domains were not being blocked. Not really able to tell if Windows was blocking it but I wouldn't think so if I turned the firewall off.

After trying to unblock hkdata it still failed. Attached is debugging info.

I was having this issue a couple of weeks ago. A couple of things to try are:

1. Uninstall and reinstall MakeMKV then ensure the checkbox to allow MakeMKV internet access is checked in preferences.
2. Try going back to MakeMKV v1.17.4.
3. Use a VPN and set MakeMKV to route via VPN. (This worked for me!)

Yeah, I had unblocked crabdance in my Bitdefender AV and changed my DNS but was still having issues. Running MakeMKV via my VPN fixed it.
