VLC Player Suddenly Quits MKV Playback (MakeMKV)

VLC player quits 3-4 minutes after playback starts, Same with Zidoo. Latest VLC version. Identical problem playing movie w/VLC directly from my Mac. Dune player doesn’t quit, instead freezing for a second and then skipping ahead about 3 minutes after each freeze. Changed to a spare ASUS drive & re-ripped with no improvement. Compared a new rip to previous Blu ray rip made a year or two ago of same movie …... older movie plays fine, the new rip does not. Any ideas as to root cause and possible workaround? Same problem on 4K/HDR. No ripping errors reported. Thanks.

Problem solved or at least isolated! In desperation, tried ripping a movie that freezes/quits on different computer (MacBook instead of normal iMac) and it plays perfectly. Running Sonoma with latest same version on both computers, so something corrupt on iMac or HDD attached
