Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Hey All,
I know the conversation is going elsewhere, but hoping I could get a little beginner guidance. I've read as much as I can of this thread and think I have an okay grasp on how to rip 4k UHD discs and play the Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL. However, in practice I've been unsuccessful. The steps I'm taking are straight from RESET_9999's DV spreadsheet. I'm:
-Selecting the 'Backup' option in MakeMKV when inserting a disc (leaving the 'Decrypt Video Files' checked)
-Once complete, I open the disc using MakeMKV to determine the correct mpls (the actual mpls is in the *Movie*->BDMV->playlist folder)
-Opening the most recent tsmuxer from github (currently nightly build from 2023-11-26)
-adding the identified mpls to the 'Input Files' section on the 'Input Tab'
-deselecting all tracks except the 3840:2160p HEVC and the True-HD (I don't care about the rest)
-muxing to m2ts or ts (I've tried both)
I'm then hosting it on a server and playing on my LG CX through a Sony x800m2. I have DV enabled. But every time, it triggers HDR, not DV. When I downloaded and played RESET_9999's DV P7 FEL test file (the Clockwork Orange one), it played perfectly, enabling DV, so it's clearly my user error here when I'm doing it. The 4k UHD I'm using is the movie '1917'. I'm currently trying a different movie to see what results I get ('Gladiator').
Am I missing a step?
Really appreciate the help, this forum has been incredible.

You have to mux the 1920x1080p DV layer as well.noquarter1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 11:35 pm

Thank you so much for answering and for all your efforts to figure this out in the first place! Now on to rip my collection and enjoy it to its fullest!

Hello @RESET_9999,
i have a question regarding the x800m2 and cropped content. I have some P8 DV mkv files that are in a 3840x1608 resolution. When converted to .ts, this will result in grey boxes when played in the x800m2,
I tried using your scripts with 2-1-1, with all L5 values set to 0, but this results in the same grey boxes. Am i doing something wrong? Will the MA version work better?
Thanks for all the help!

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it and I bought an ATV just for cropped content.tjreis2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 8:10 pmHello @RESET_9999,

Yes, MA will work properly because they don't crop their encodes.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Thank you! I also have a LG C2. Would it be better to play the DV file in the internal C2 player, or the HDR version on the x800m2?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 8:23 pmUnfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it and I bought an ATV just for cropped content.tjreis2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 8:10 pmHello @RESET_9999,

If you don't care about losing lossless audio, yes.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
In this case the audio is DD plus, so it's already lossy. Thank you for your input!

Hello
To convert a DoVi P5 rpu to DoVi P8 rpu is the workflow 1 then 1

HI @RESET_9999,
First of all, thank you for all your work for these fabulous scripts.
I have some questions to see if you can all help me.
What I need is to convert ISOS UHD or m2ts DTDL( MpegH HEVC Main10@L5.1 dvhe.07.06 BL+FEL+RPU) to MKV in STDL.(dvhe.07.06 BL+FEL+RPU).
Is this what the MakeMKV app does directly? Convert an ISO/m2ts DTDL to a MKV STDL?
How can I know if the ISO or m2ts is DTDL or STDL?
And the same to check it in a mkv?
Thank you for your time and sharing this valuable knowledge.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Hi mate, I don't if you still read this thread...
I think I know what's going on with the old LLDV sony TVs. They have a wrong Edid brightness over 1000nits and Dolby vision is designed to ignore the L2 trims when the edid is higher than the rpu mastering display.
For example, this is the edid of the Sony A1 (2017):
Vendor-Specific Video Data Block (Dolby), OUI 00-D0-46:
Version: 2 (12 bytes)
Supports YUV422 12 bit
DM Version: 3.x
Backlt Min Luma: 100 cd/m^2
Interface: Low-Latency
Supports 10b 12b 444: Not supported
Target Min PQ v2: 0 (0.00000000 cd/m^2)
Target Max PQ v2: 3225 (1387 cd/m^2)
This TV, according to rtings can do only 800nits so that edid doesn't make sense and its the reason why L2 is ignored and L1 is applied inaccurately..
see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29ed65Aq5K0
Solution:
Change the edid to 800nits.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Yes makemkv does ST-DL but also mkvtoolnix which was updated recently to do that.
original iso/m2ts are always DTDL
yes but you must have the HDR10 BL. You cant transform a P5 file to P8 without it(without re-encoding).
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
FYI, that MEGA link doesn't seem to work (I think it's for your own logged in account), but are you sharing a tool to change EDID on TVs or something? Just curious.RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 3:50 pm...
