Replacement disc from Amazon. Still can't rip Oppenheimer. I don't have problems with other UHD discs. Is there a log file or other info I should submit?

Code: Select all

Saving 1 titles into directory C:/Users/~/Videos/Scratch/Movie 0 using profile 'Atmos 3D' from file 'C:\Users\~/.MakeMKV/Atmos 3D.mmcp.xml'
Error 'Scsi error - HARDWARE ERROR:TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00294.m2ts' at offset '30303252480'

0 titles saved, 1 failed
that error if its a usb drive usually mean its not getting enough power is the drive usb?
what dive is this?
probably time to try cleaning the drive
after that replace it with a pioneer
No. Internal LG WH16NS40 1.02 drive. Works great. No other UHD discs have problems. Not an issue with the disc being dirty. Not a problem with my drive. This is a MakeMKV issue with Oppenheimer (from Amazon, apparently).

Ok let's prove that theory then. Follow these steps.

1) open the disc with makemkv to the title selection screen. Leave it there and do not eject the disc at this point

2) open imgburn and read the disc to an iso file

If that's successful you should be able to open the iso with makemkv. If there are read errors imgburn will let you know definitively.

I know it’s not the drive because I have ripped several other discs new and old. A couple at the same time as the Oppenheimer disc. Only Oppenheimer gives this problem. This problem only happens when discs aren’t yet readable with MakeMKV and / or AnyDVD.

I also have an Amazon disc. Both my WH16NS60 and BU40N would either not read it or fail about 30% of the way through all the while ripping various other 4Ks that I got recently without any issue. Picked up a flashed Pioneer BDR-S13U-X and it ran through the first time without any problem. Your mileage may vary.

Hey there,

for anyone who is still trying to get the 3CB4 Amazon disc to rip:

I couldn't get MakeMKV to download the latest key file.
Even though internet access was enabled in the settings and "hkdata.fairuse.org" was resolving correctly and answering pings fine. (both with Googles and Cloudflares DNS servers)
Using a VPN to a different location and restarting MakeMKV enabled me to download the key and start ripping. :D
I am not sure, why the new key file wasn't found automatically at startup, since I am not aware of any form of geo-blocking active on my system or being enforced by my provider.

Hopefully someone finds this helpful. :)

I am currently about 40GB in, and the rip is looking good. Really excited to finally enjoy the movie in UHD. :D

That 30% failure is the problem I have.

How do you identify that a disc is "3CB4" or whatever?

How do you know what key data MakeMKV is using? I only see the occasional app update notice. I've never seen anything about downloading new key data or any way to do a manual update.

you dont need a UX though s13UBK or even 212 will likely do.

I received my replacement disc from Amazon, and I've been trying to rip it. Still getting all manners of disc errors, although I think the sector location is different.

I've tried two drives (internal Asus, USB LG in powered case) and no luck. Tried to clean it well, no luck.

I also received a copy of "The Mist", and that won't rip either. Also getting "Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00278.m2ts' at offset '40016148480'" from that disc too. Actually, I recleaned the disc again with microfiber cloth, and got an error again, on a different sectory, although also about halfway through the rip.

This is ridiculous... Could I really be on that big a string of bad discs? Is there anything else that causes this issue? I re-ripped John Wick 4 on same drive to make sure the drive works, and no problem.

Should I give up on Amazon and try from somewhere else, like Walmart?

Really is luck of the draw with LG/asus drive you might want to add a pioneer to your setup so you have exchange less discs.
But any store can have bad discs I would rule out 1 retailer over the other
