UH12NS40 and BD-100 drives (oppenheimer)

Post by nunya26 »

Hi all,

I've had my UH12NS40 for several years now, and occasionally I run into discs that error out with a SCSI read error. I never paid it much attention because it was so infrequent. I'm starting to see it happen more frequently, and on movies I really want to rip at 4K, in this case, Oppenheimer. I've heard that this drive may have issues with BD-100, so I'm wondering if this is the intermittent issue I've been experiencing. Does anyone have this drive and confirm if it does or doesn't work for these types of discs? I'm trying to figure out if my current situation is a drive, disc, or compatibility issue, as my drive does work with other discs.

Thanks for any advice!

In my experience, no drive is perfect. Some discs just don't seem to work in some drives. I currently have 3 different drives. Between the 3, I can almost always get a clean rip.

Perhaps in your case, it is time to add an additional drive. Pioneer drives are held in high regard, though they're sorta hard to come by at the moment since to work with MakeMKV, they need old firmware.

The sellers here on the forum still have some in stock. I highly recommend a Pioneer. They give the least amount of problems.
