I am using the Mac version of MakeMKV 10.6.10.
When converting Blu-Ray titles to .mkv files, MakeMKV detects all Blu-Ray titles as 16:9 (1920 x 1080) even though many titles have different aspect ratios.
When I convert one movie that has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, MakeMKV says it's 16:9 and the output file is 1920 x 1080 and has horizontal black bars above and blow the content.
The same thing occurs on Blu-Ray titles with 1.85:1 aspect ratios except of course the black bars are smaller.
Is there a way to get MakeMKV to recognize the correct aspect ratio of a Blu-Ray disc and output .mkv files without black bars above and below the content?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Warmest regards,
Roger
MakeMKV only able to output 16:9?
Re: MakeMKV only able to output 16:9?
That's how it's encoded on the disc, so that's how MakeMKV extracts it.RogerNG wrote:When I convert one movie that has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, MakeMKV says it's 16:9 and the output file is 1920 x 1080 and has horizontal black bars above and blow the content.

Re: MakeMKV only able to output 16:9?
All Blu-rays are encoded at 16:9 as far as I have seen. The movie will fit somewhere inside the 1920x1080 frame. Lots of older movies like Bambi, Gone with the Wind, etc...were filmed in 4:3 so they have to but the black bars on the sides of the screens.RogerNG wrote:I am using the Mac version of MakeMKV 10.6.10.

Only way you can get rid of the black bars is to re-encode. That's a deal breaker for most people.
