I believe here is a good place to ask.

What is the highest apl scene you have seen on a hdr movie? I mean with real data.

Thanks

I want to test an external streaming device on my tv for better fluidity.

For dv everything will be p5 , but it seems that no streamer can do tv led properly?

@RESET_9999
In the recent Black Hawk Down 4K, why are the brightness levels so high? As per my knowledge, no TV is capable of doing those levels. How does it impact viewing it in OLED with max brightness of 700-800nits?

Higher metadata brightness than your TV means more dimming and more tone mapping to preserve the highlights details.

While the shots peak brightness is very high, 86% of the shot's average brightness is under 25nits and 65% under 10nits.

My previous try for SDR to HDR was too dark. After a lot of trial and error, I have come up with this.

hello I've done some testing for dolby vision on devices for you reset.

toshiba 55UA3D63DB:

it supports profile 5, profile 8.1 in mp4 and mkv.

it playes the p7 fel st-dl and DT-Dl test clips and shows the text, brightness changes, but not the colours strobing and dolby vision isn't triggered either in ts or mp4.

the ts st-dl fel test track didn't show the brightness change, the strobing or the text and didn't show the dv logo

dune hd homatics box 4k plus:
unsure if this box has the fake TV led dolby vision issue however.

source led mode:
profile 7 fel
st-dl ts & mp4:
brightness change, strobing and text appeared correctly and triggered dv
DT-Dl ts:
brightness change, text appeared and dv triggered (no colour strobe)
DT-Dl mp4:
brightness change, colour strobing, text and dv logo

profile 8.1 works correctly in mp4 and mkv
profile 5 works correctly in mp4

player led mode:
profile 7 fel:
st-dl ts:
brightness change, colour strobing, text and dv logo
DT-Dl ts:
text and dv logo
st-dl and dt-dl mp4 :
brightness change, colour strobing, text and dv logo

profile 5 works in mp4 and 8.1 works correctly in mp4 and mkv.

unfortunately my TV doesn't have the hidden menu to look any further then that.

Yes that's better than your sample from the other day. here's the original vs your conversion plot: https://slow.pics/c/81IGyAYq

I did this movie a while ago and IIRC, the BD SDR grade is not very good.
You'll notice that the SDR to HDR conversion works much better when the SDR grade is decent.

yes the text appeared correctly.
Im actually really unsure what it's doing to be honest. the tests would indicate so, and the manufactures page says it supports fel, however the word it in a way that makes it sound like they are discarding fel and doing bl+rpu.

are your test sample definitive proof of proper fel support?

Im willing to do any testing you can think of, if you want me to dig deeper.

slightly off topic - getting dolby vision and truehd atmos working at the same time has been a pain. then there's earc flakeyness that really drives a middle finger home XD.

I use the 2nd one (most highlight detail) but any option is fine and its up to your preference. If you find DV too dark, try the other tuning.

From top to bottom = More tone mapping/darker to less tone mapping/brighter

oh I see whats going on. My 2nd version of the fel test is misleading and i took the wrong EL.
please try this one instead and look for the 2nd video in the background like this:

thank you, I've tested the new file on the dune hd homatics box r 4k plus.
exactly what i thought and disregards the fel so it is just bl+rpu.

it annoys me they advertise fel support and then completely ignore the fel like what is the actual point of misleading everyone.

as I can't play fel on the dune hd is it worth converting profile 7 fel to profile 5?

@RESET_9999 I have been using your scripts for quite some time now, but I wonder if you have an automated option for processing a BD disc Profile 7 source to Profile 7 dual-track dual-layers, because my Sony X800m2 has problems with many ST-DL m2ts files (black screen), but works fine with DT-DL files. When I detect such a problem, then I simply convert the ST-DL to DT-DL m2ts, but that implies one more step. Thanks!

this doesnt need to be scripted. Use workflow 8-3 to find out the correct playlist and then remux it directly with DoVi_Scripts\tools\tsMuxerGUI.exe
