As I said, you measure any video with madvr, if 95% is under 1000nits , you use 1000nits MDL in 3-1.

Fel dv plot has nothing to do with this.

Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One in Dolby Vision Profile 8 is completely unwatchable on Philips TV.
Tried Apple TV 4K, Shield TV Pro but same picture. Plex and Vimu installed on the TV are the same.
If I buy the film from iTunes the picture is perfect and if I download the original Profile 5 version it is perfect.
What is causing the problem with Profile 8?

For instance, one could set encoding to maximum quality and the resulting file will be huge, while I usually keep quality at 5 in which I found a good compromise between quality and space, so how much of importance does the ProRes quality have to do with the final result?

I use -qscale:v 3 and RESET's script has -qscale:v 4, which I believe he found to be best overall compromise between speed/size and PQ/accuracy, if I'm not mistaken.

Apparently the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2Gen) 2023 16GB supports:
-Dolby TrueHD (Atmos) passthrough
-DTS passthrough
-DTS-HD passthrough (basic profile)
which is new.
Still no FEL / Profile 7 DoVi support per https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire- ... ax_gen2_16 though.

Thanks for the info but unfortunately, the FireTV device is probably the worst one for DV rip.

1- Overall a much darker image than all the other devices. Not a subtle difference, its very noticeable.

2- Stutter with high bitrate videos (I had to redo the firetv lldv capture about 3 times in that YouTube video)
5ghz wifi or USB to ethernet adaptor

3- Can't do true TV-LED meaning it's always the player that is processing the dynamic metadata.

4- Does some Dolby Vision IQ internally even if your TV is in cinema mode with DV IQ is set to off(greyed out)... This is related to L11 cmv4.0 which should only works when your TV is in Cinema Home mode with DV IQ on.

Not really worth it in my opinion, at this time, given UHD BD is 2 weeks away from retail and will have DoVi included.

Thanks for answering my questions as I get a grip on this, I hope it hasn't been too annoying.
I made a copy of Scream 3 using 3-1 with a version of your program last week and it worked fine. However I wanted to remake it with the 1000 nit MDL as you advised, and now I'm getting errors.

I tried 3-1 with profile 7 mkv input on your new version 1.9.7.
The process seems to run fine but at the end I'm left with a .mkv with only an audio track (no video). There's also a .bin file and a .hevc file which according to mediainfo has only hdr and no DV.
