I don't know what to say... the image given by the wrong P8 seems even brighter and more enjoyable to me.
Enough.. I don't give up on understanding more
Then your TV internal player is wrong.
It just make no sense that (2000 L1 + 1000nits BL) produce a brighter image than (1000 L1 + 1000 BL)
Sorry my friend. You are right. I took an incorrect image.
Here is the correct comparison.
DV 8 (wrong) from your files:
DV8 (optimal) from your files:
Comparison slow pics

Here I don't find any differences even in the camera images.

DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6
"Dolby Vision CM 4.0 L1 analysis with user-selected filtering support."
What does this mean?
Curious too... but i think it means Resolve has the new 2023 DoVi algo from now.

well I don't know. Are you using a phone to take those pictures?
if yes, you need a DSLR camera that can lock all the settings.
On a phone, there's always the exposure or ISO that remains dynamic making it almost impossible to make accurate comparisons..

The only problem now remains is importing official scene cuts in DaVinci.
Also RESET should we now not use different scaling and 1080p resolution?

I guess scaling down with cubic won't be needed anymore.
Unfortunately, when you import the original XML, it doesn't import the scene cut but at least we can now do the dynamic L5 with the latest algo.
PS: I updated my resolve preset for 18.6 in the dovi_scripts tutorial folder.

Is is normal that a higher luminance level on a “tonemaped under 700 nit tv” looks dimmer?, isn’t it?

I have a lg g3 here. I will replace it by a sony soon.
Anyways, I tried to play p7 dual layer ts via the media app on the g3 and they are not recognized. On my c1 they play as hdr, but on the g3 nothing.
I was wondering what lg did here.

I tried searching this mega thread but could find the info.
What is the purpose of reinjecting rpu from an resolve analysist? I see @RESET_9999 that you have done a lot of movie , what is the purpose of using your rpu ? What should i do with it and what would be the outcome difference versus original p7 DL?
Thanks

Yes, when the content exceeds your TV capabilities, Dolby dims the brightness to preserve highlights details. HDR10 also does that but with a static curve while DV does it shot by shot.

No P7 support since 2019 on LG TVs.

Resolve is for movies that come without DV or the ones that have static metadata.

18.6 also fixes the downscaling bug, now there is no longer a difference between the project set to 1080p or 2160p. NICE!
18.6 scaling VS no scaling:

18.5 scaling VS no scaling:

But it's still important to have your project set to Custom Cubic because it's still the only algo that produces identical peaks as madVR.
18.6 smoother vs cubic custom:

EDIT:
woah, scratch that. It turns out the scaling issues are caused by the cracked version .

What settings to use on cracked one?
I generated a xml using the recently updated preset in cracked version (18.6). Do we need to make any changes or is that fine?

Is there any legitimate other reason for dual 4k60 decoders other than FEL Dolby Vision? Sounds like an interesting contender
