MakeMKV Scaling Issue 4K Screens

Post by cipher »

I recently upgraded my laptop to one with a 4K screen after using 2K laptop screens for a long time. After the change, I noticed that MakeMKV isn't scaling its UI elements (eg fonts, controls) like other applications are which makes it more difficult to use.

Here is a screenshot showing Windows Explorer & Edge browser on the left vs MakeMKV on the right.

This comparison shows how MakeMKV seems to be using hardcoded UI elements that aren't scaling properly. Look at the font size in the Source, Info and Bottom sections as well as the size of the dropdown control in the Source section.

Are there any future plans to add scaling support for the app?

Isn't there a way to change per app DPI scaling in Windows?

docke22, thank you for that article as it's made the scaling much better. It's not perfect, but the sizing is much better now and I don't need to put reading glasses on to read the words! :D

Hopefully, MakeMKV can add native scaling support, but for now this is a nice workaround.

What about the Linux .deb version of Makemkv? It respects my dark theme BUT the fonts are way too small compared to flatpak app ( which I use but prefer to have one of each running as I'm able to easily rip two different bluray discs at the same time and it makes it quicker and easier to distinguish which makemkv instance/app is which via the dark theme on the .deb native Linux vs flatpak
