DVD - assuming fake title

Post by ivystopia » Mon Jul 24, 2023 6:36 pm

Spaced - Collectors Edition DVD, disk 2

Device: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N

Title 8 cannot be ripped. It does not display when using Open Disc.

When using "Open DVD files manually" the full list of titles is displayed, including Title 8:

Code: Select all

Disc Information
Label : SPACED_2
Titles count : 15

Title information
1: 1/1 - 5 chapter(s) 0:24:15 5 cell(s)
2: 2/1 - 5 chapter(s) 0:24:24 5 cell(s)
3: 3/1 - 5 chapter(s) 0:24:24 5 cell(s)
4: 4/1 - 5 chapter(s) 0:24:58 5 cell(s)
5: 5/1 - 5 chapter(s) 0:24:45 6 cell(s)
6: 6/1 - 5 chapter(s) 0:26:00 5 cell(s)
7: 7/1 - 5 chapter(s) 0:25:57 5 cell(s)
8: 8/1 - 18 chapter(s) 0:17:56 18 cell(s)
9: 9/1 - 7 chapter(s) 0:04:34 7 cell(s)
10: 10/1 - 1 chapter(s) 0:02:17 1 cell(s)
11: 11/1 - 1 chapter(s) 0:01:02 1 cell(s)
12: 12/1 - 1 chapter(s) 0:06:31 1 cell(s)
13: 13/1 - 3 chapter(s) 0:12:55 3 cell(s)
14: 14/1 - 1 chapter(s) 0:00:10 1 cell(s)
15: 15/1 - 1 chapter(s) 0:00:05 1 cell(s)
When entering 8 and pressing OK, the error is shown:

Code: Select all

Open DVD manually: "8"
Fake cells occupy 95% of the title - assuming fake title
Failed to open disc
The same error is seen when explicitly entering 8[1-18]

Also, when using "Open DVD files manually" this is seen in the log:

Code: Select all

Is there some way to prevent MakeMKV from assuming the title is fake?

I'm having the same problem when ripping an old 2005 DVD. You would think it would be easy for MKV because of it's age?

Log data:

"MakeMKV v1.17.4 win(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:UNRECOVERED READ ERROR' occurred while reading 'DVD+R-DL MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8B0 1.00 YM58 088807' at offset '765085696'
Cells 33-33 were removed from title end
Title #1 declared length is 1:41:19 while its real length is 0:53:26 - assuming fake title"

I don't know how to overcome the issue?

Any help guys would be great!

Kind regards
