Would anyone happen to have any information on the issue I'm encountering? It's been a month and I still can't rip this video.

Thank you.
you can try these steps as others have had the issue...

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=24711
That link would be more useful if it mentioned the replacement for "hkdata.fairuse.org". Without that information, it's useless for the issue encountered.

There is your problem. Makemkv needs to have Internet access enabled. View - Preferences General. Check the box.
Internet access IS enabled.

Then your DNS is blocking Russia. Change your DNS in your Router. Google for options.

Nope. I don't have any GeoBlocking turned on.

Does anyone know the DNS name of the current HK server? That would make this process much easier.

Your DNS server has geoblocking. Change it, stubborn.

Nobody knows how to do basic networking stuff anymore. You want to see where it's being blocked?

tracert hkdata.fairuse.org

And you will find your answer.

You ask for too much Sam.

EDIT: Open a command window. Copy and paste what Sam has posted into the command window. See the trace.

I'm still trying to determine which version of the movie people are having ieeus with here. I posted here when I first got the movie because I was unsure of the correct title, but then I figured it out and gave people the info. However, My copy of Way of Water ripped out of the box with the latest MakeMKV. I did the standard Blu-ray, as I have no reason to rip UHD discs, and just play UHD from disc.

That's why I was asking, because it worked for me without issues, wanted to see if I could do anything to help others. However, I wasn't sure which version we're talking about here.
UHD, or Standard BD, or both.

Again for peter-a. Open a command line and paste Sam's tracert line. Then you will see where it's stuck.

Despite your claims to the contrary, I have no GeoBlocking enabled in my router. Please don't treat others as though they're clueless just because you can't see past the end of your nose.

tracert hkdata.fairuse.org

The documentation linked previously (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=24711) clearly states that HKDATA.FAIRUSE.ORG is no longer used as the Hash Key repository.

However, it can't hurt, so:

Code: Select all

PS C:\Users\Peter> tracert hkdata.fairuse.org

Tracing route to hkdata.fairuse.org [185.84.108.20]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

PS C:\Users\Peter>
Can we accept that as proof that there's no GeoBlocking in use to the "no longer used" Hash Key repository of HKDATA.FAIRUSE.ORG?

I can also bring the site up as HTTP, but HTTPS returns an error of "ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR". If HTTPS is used to retrieve the HKDB, I probably need to enable an older SSL/TLS protocol. Does anyone know the SSL/TLS version actually used for the HKDB download?

Now, back to my previous question. Since this host is "no longer used", does anyone know what the DNS name is for the current Hash Key repository?

none of this matters just because your router does not have geo blocking on does not mean your isp dns does not and thats out of your control.
the domain name is hidden and can be changed for obvious reasons these keys are not meant to be out there that's why they are hidden.
you will just have to bite the bullet and do the troubleshooting steps everyone else is doing changing your dns trying a vpn ect... if you want to use makemkv for UHD ripping there is no special help for this and no exceptions.
