Old BD Drive. What to do with it ?

#1 Post by georgesgiralt » Sun Jul 23, 2023 4:33 pm

Hello,
A friend of mine had an old high end laptop with a BD combo drive in it. The laptop is old and beyond repair. But the drive is fine.
It is a Philips & Lite-on Digital Solutions Corporation DS-4E1S (it is a 12.7 mm thick SATA one).
What use could it have ?
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Have a nice and bright day.

I don't have any experience with that particular drive, but MakeMKV has a reputation for working with most DVD and blu-ray drives. MakeMKV can also work with more than 1 optical drive at the same time (turn on 'Ask for single drive mode' in preferences). You could put the drive in an external case (I think Vantec makes one), plug it into your computer, and use it with MakeMKV.
