did the makemkv beta key for linux just permanently expire?

#1 Post by axelace13 » Sun Jun 04, 2023 7:09 pm

It seems like the beta key for makemkv does not automatically work now. I tried some help from another topic here from two days ago, and resetting my date to may 30th worked. The concerning thing is that in a 13 year old thread, an admin said that this was the free beta key and that it would expire may 2023. Does that mean that it has left a free beta status and I now have to buy it? :o

He regularly updates the beta key, and it's generally good for around 3 to 4 months. You won't have to pay for it still. Sometimes it just takes him a while to post a new one, no worries.

Hi there!

I set up my encoding machine today. Mainly for Blender, Openshot and sometimes MakeMKV things.

I installed MakeMKV using snap, telling me it is outdated and need registration. Deinstalled, Installed again using

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install build-essential pkg-config libc6-dev libssl-dev libexpat1-dev libavcodec-dev libgl1-mesa-dev qtbase5-dev zlib1g-dev
But it still tells me it is out of date. Sudo apt update did not help

I don't think I have a beta key. Checked the only mail I have from MakeMKV which was only to activate my account.

I might be doing something wrong but I cant figure it out. Any ideas? I would be very thankful.

Have a good day! :)

You can ignore the warnings about old versions, it'll run just fine. You'll need to put in your beta key though.

Hi
I'm having some trouble updating the key.
I have changed the file (~/.MakeMKV/settings.conf), so that it included the key. Like this, app_Key = "T-fy5LxToQrFlY9L90tnUXh1DwnzODk3HNmNqi9datJ1MRanA08uMKf5p4YtdkCT0RkW"
But when i try ripping a dvd, it still sends me this message:
"This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at http://www.makemkv.com/ or enter a registration key to continue using the current version."
I have makeMKV running on a linux headless server. So I cant access the GUI.
Only command line!
I've tried a bunch of reboots, always changing some little thing but nothing.
Hope anyone can give me a hand
Thanks in advance!

That key is the current key; are you certain it was used by the running copy?

The key is legal for all versions of MakeMKV, Linux, Apple, or Windows.

I think if you're using the beta key, you're required to use the latest version of MakeMKV. So the error message is true.
"This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at http://www.makemkv.com/ or enter a registration key to continue using the current version."
If you purchase a license, you can use any version of MakeMKV you'd like.
