WH14NS40

#1 Post by carvers » Sun Jul 02, 2023 10:28 am

I've got a WH14NS40 I've been using for a few years now, works mostly fine for DVDs and Blu-rays. UHD it sometimes works for, but I sometimes get read errors, and mounting disks using it has been hit or miss. I'm thinking flashing might make some of these things better/more reliable.

Here's the output of

Code: Select all

makemkvcon f --info -d <drive ID I got from makemkvcon f -l
:

Code: Select all

SDF.bin version: 0x0097

(To save other headless Linux users some time, search keywords: headless linux makemkvcon drive platform. It was a pain trying to find the drive platform without the MakeMKV GUI.)

The firmware guide gives the following guidance:
1. Make sure your Drive was built after 2016 on label or late 2015 if you want to risk it.
2. Drive Platform MT1959<Most important in makemkv
3. SVC NS50+ LG only on label for NB drives NB50+
The manufacturer sticker on my drive says it was made in December 2015, but the Drive Platform is reported as MT1959. Am I good to go, or is there no connection between the two? Is there a way to know if my drive was made late enough that I'm not going to brick it, or is it just "try it and find out"?

yeah your fine but if your having issues with it flashing will likely not fix it but if you do flash it to a WH16NS60 fw de of mk will work
