I'm a bit lost in these replies is there a solution to the 1.04 firmware issue yet ether by flashing or other? No problem if not but the thread seems to have drifted away form that.
No solution yet
Billycar11 is your auto flash kit a solution to this issue? Really hoping to get back to ripping 4K again as quickly as possible.

Test it for UHD first. If it works then do not change firmware.
Cheers :D

Am I correct that the below drive (even though it has firmware 1.02) should be OK once the small firmware dump is uploaded and MakeMKV updated? I'm assuming that's the case based on LibreDrive "Possible, not yet enabled."

My return window is closing in a week or so, so if this drive is definitely NOT usable for UHD (in the long term), then I'll return it. If it IS indeed usable, even it might take a while for the MakeMKV update, then I'd just as well keep it.

Thanks!

Nope. The firmware is too new. It shows as 27 Dec 2022. Any firmware dated Dec 2022 or newer is no good. It could be months before we have a resolution.

Recently bought a pioneer drive due to libredrive support (or so I thought), reliablility, and UHD. Sadly it came with 1.04 firmware which appears I'm in trouble as MakeMKV folks haven't figured out a solution yet. Should I return the drive or are we making headway to unlock the 1.04 firmware drives.

if you cant wait return it and buy one of my pioneers if your in the usa.

but i have mine here ready and waiting now ready to go out tomorrow

Bought a fresh Pioneer BDRS12UHT from Amazon Australia this week, the drive arrived with 1.04. Info tab:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: H:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S12U
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: [serial number was here]
Firmware date: 2022-12-20
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 78

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F01
Firmware version: ID43
At least it's still working with regular blurays; I had a Verbatim 43888 mechanically fail after ripping just one 4K disc and 2 DVDs, couldn't even detect regular blurays once it started breaking. This Pioneer drive seems much more reliable and has gone through more content without issue already, so I'm keen to see a fix to use this drive. Just seems better overall.

Is there anything we can do to help? Logs of anything?

I have no problem keeping it if we can get it working eventually. In the meantime, it benefits me to have 2 drives for separate machines. One stays connected to the server, so I just ordered a pioneer from you as well to keep me running since my LG desktop drive died after a year and 4 months.

Pioneer seems more reliable as my first pioneer BD (non UHD) drive lasted well over 5 years. Really dissatisfied with LG.
