MakeMKV will not open a DVD disc

#1 Post by ianmck » Sat Jun 17, 2023 3:48 pm

Hi

MakeMKV is having a problem opening one of my DVDs. I have been successful copying Bluray discs and other DVD's without issue, however, when a one specific DVD is used I get the following log entries:

Using direct disc access mode
Calculated BUP offset for VTS #0 does not match one in IFO header.
DEBUG: Code 0 at 50U$77%wM?@GV?:29400071
IFO file for VTS #0 is corrupt, VOB file must be scanned. This may take very long time, please be patient.
DEBUG: Code 0 at 50U$77%wM?@GV?:29400071
DEBUG: Code 0 at &8F3QDY>4ar=Q&&_3:121262854
Failed to open disc

If I check 'Open DVD manually' I get an identical log entry yet the DVD itself will play on the same computer using VLC Media Player and in my separate Bluray player without problems. I have also changed the DVD opening modes from AUTO with no affect.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is this just a bad disc?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

IanMck

Hi Ezatoka

Thank you for your reply.

I had seen the post you referenced and had tried to scan the disc using all avallable modes - with exactly the same end result.

In the post there is a reference to MakeMKD hanging during the scan - this is not my experience. This is the log entry no matter which mode I try:

Using direct disc access mode
Calculated BUP offset for VTS #0 does not match one in IFO header.
DEBUG: Code 0 at 50U$77%wM?@GV?:29400071
IFO file for VTS #0 is corrupt, VOB file must be scanned. This may take very long time, please be patient.
DEBUG: Code 0 at 50U$77%wM?@GV?:29400071
DEBUG: Code 0 at &8F3QDY>4ar=Q&&_3:121262854
Failed to open disc

There is a very slight pause (less than a second) after the second line is posted - the bold entries come immediately after.

Since makeMKD can create files for other DVDs and Blurays I own, I must assume the problem is with the DVD itself - although it plays correctly in VLC Media Player and my Bluray player.

this is a common error with discs that use the Disney X Project Protection method, basically the disc has 99 titles and causes issues. I used alternate software that supports the Disney X Project Protection and successfully backed up my movie. if you read my posts on this forum it gives a little more detail.

best regards

Simon
