Kind've wasted my money on a new Matshita (Panasonic) UJ240AS external usb blu-ray drive for my macbook pro seeing that it had a decent bd-rom read speed, but it seems to max out at 1.6x in makemkv (looks like this is a cap often imposed by drives?)
A bit of searching showed up http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ which offers the ability to remove the cap on certain drives but i don't think it can help with the UK240AS.
I wondered if we could get a list of the best (fastest)
a) internal blu-ray drive
b) internal hd-dvd drive
c) internal blu-ray / hd-dvd combo drive
d) external blu-ray drive
e) external hd-dvd drive
f) external blu-ray / hd-dvd combo drive
(not sure if f even exists)
It looks like the LG 10x blu-ray drives might be a safe bet as they're listed on http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/
