Re: Dumb question
You have to do it yourself makemkv does not do it for you.
You don't need to do anything if your just using regular blu-ray and DVD

Re: Dumb question
Thanks for the fast response. Just to make sure I understand, LibreDrive does not improve performance for blu-ray and DVDs?

Performance not unless you use the drive speed unlock in the registry for libredrive drives.HomeAutomation wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:01 pmThanks for the fast response. Just to make sure I understand, LibreDrive does not improve performance for blu-ray and DVDs?
But there are a few cases where on new aacs version your drive will get locked without libredrive and you won't be able to copy any blurays until makemkv is updated but this is rare but libredrive would not let that happen

Re: Dumb question
Gotcha, so if I flashed the drives with LibreDrive drivers and applied a registry update, it may improve performance?
If my understanding is right, how much of a performance are we talking on average? Is it like 10-15% or closer to 50+%?

Re: Dumb question
I assume you've read the thread about MakeMKV drive speed control.
At the end of the day, reading data faster from an optical disc requires the disc to spin faster. Spin it fast enough, and it'll break. Setting up unrestricted read speeds isn't likely to result in disc failure, but the chance is non-zero.
If you have a large number of discs to get through, a better solution is to use more than one drive at the same time. MakeMKV supports this with the 'Ask for single drive mode' checkbox in preferences. Personally, I have 3 drives and can use all 3 at the same time. This makes it relatively fast to ingest a whole season of a TV show, for example.

Re: Dumb question
For anyone else coming back to this post, I just learned it's also needed for 4K Blu-rays.
