Creed UHD Errors

I'm pretty new to this but I've had very few issues moving my UHD collection to my PC but this one has stumped me.

I have 2 drives. A BP50NB40 flashed to BP60NB10 1.0 and a Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD

So far if I've had any errors on the LG drive I could go to the Pioneer drive and get through it.

With Creed on the LG drive I get:

However on the Pioneer drive it can't even decrypt the disc. I submitted the dump but is it normal for one drive to be able to decrypt the disc and one not be able to?

I've cleaned the disc multiple times with soap, water, and a microfiber cloth but still I get the same error on the LG drive and no decryption on the Pioneer.

It is possible that the drive is simply not able to go "full speed". Is it a USB-powered drive?

The "tell" is when you make multiple attempts to read the disk, but the error occurs at different spots each time. The run you listed ended at 41235443712 into reading; if a subsequent run ends at a different point, you may have a power issue. The drive starts to spin faster than it can get power, and stops... until the power resets.

If that is the case, you can try to keep the drive from going too fast by slowing the writes down for now, but the power issue needs to be addressed.

They're both USB drives. I thought it most of my issues could be speed related since the main difference I've noticed is that the LG drive will attempt 6x speed while the Pioneer won't go above 4x and so far until now any disc that wouldn't work on the LG would work on the Pioneer.

I have both USB ports plugged into the front panel. I can try plugging them in directly to the motherboard on their own USB controller.

I've seen some mentioning ripping to a USB drive to slow their drive down, is there any way to restrict the drive speed directly?

Also any idea why the Pioneer can't decrypt the disc but the LG can?

Well, now It's decrypting just fine in the Pioneer. I did submit the dump it gave me earlier so maybe it's been patched already? I guess we'll see if it can get through the entire movie.

I'm not an expert at which drives can decode which type disks... others deal with that.

One thing that I've seen, though, is that USB drives tend to want more than USB 2.0 power for full speed. Computers tend to feed "one USB unit of power" to each PAIR of ports, so if you have something that draws "1.1 USB power" or more, they'll have a dual-head cord that should be powered by separate USB ports, not ones side-by-side on the case.

Laptops are really bad about power, though. If they have USB 2.0 power ports, they'll have "one USB power unit" of power for all ports on the machine. Those need a powered-USB hub when you need to power drives. USB 3.0 has (generally) more power available, so a USB 3 port can (usually) fully feed a USB optical drive.

Ultimate fix is a powered USB port, where every port has full power available, and the drives are cabled to receive full power. Temporary fix is to keep the drive going slow enough that it doesn't use full power, but that's not your goal, is it? Full speed is what you want, so "MO POWA!!!" is the fix.

The screwy part is they don't explain that dual-USB cables only get full power under certain conditions. GRRR!!!!

Gotcha. Every port on this PC is USB 3 5 gbps or USB 3 10 gbps so I assumed it would be fine but the drive is plugged into the front panel header which might not be as powerful as the ones on the back, maybe? I dunno. I've got another USB C port open that can put out like 60w or something crazy so maybe I'll just get a micro USB to USB C adapter I've seen some resellers talking about. But you're right. I definitely love it when it just cruises through at 6x with no problems lol.

Just an update, the Pioneer drive finished it just fine. You're probably right about it being a power issue since that drive, now that it can decode it, handled it at 4x without issue. I'm going to play with the USB ports I have available to see if I can get around it. If I still have issues I'll grab a powered USB hub and go from there. Thanks for all of the help, guys!
