I wound up just ordering new drives. Ordered 4. All had 1.03 on it. Using two and I will keep the other two on hand as spares in case either of these ever fail.

Good to hear Mike. Will the downgrade functionality be part of Makemkv or is the separate utility needed?
Most likely both - it will be part of sdftool and also available as a separate utility.

Haha, unwittingly updated my brand new S13U-X to 1.04 before seeing this announcement, had to send it back in and get a replacement that was luckily still on 1.03. Will NOT be touching the firmware from now on lmao.
Unluckily, I have also flashed my BDR-S13J-X with 1.04 firmware before reading this thread. Any possibility to downgrade it to which support LibreDrive?

Some status update. Unfortunately, this is taking much longer than expected. One think to note is that downgrade is possible on any version of firmware, and at the very least you would be able to downgrade, even a new drive that came with locked firmware.
Waiting for your update on how to downgrade firmware of my Pioneer BDR-S13J-X from 1.04 to 1.03 owing to my oversight of the warning post on this forum.

I have a Pioneer BDR-212UBK and it was working awesome for ripping my UHD discs for almost a year. Unfortunately, just recently I stumbled into an issue with a couple of discs so I decided to "upgrade" to firmware 1.04 and like this forum is discussing it disabled the ability to rip UHD. Really looking forward to any type of solution. I'm grateful that my drive still rips DVD and Blu-ray, but I can't wait to have the ability to rip UHD to be restored to my drive. Thanks to everyone that is working on this, and I hope that a fix will be created soon.

in 12 serials, it appears that all newly-released Pioneer firmwares contain updated kernel with downgrade protection.
the developers of MakeMKV are working on the support of fw1.04.
please wait till new sdf release.

Hi! Sorry, but I am new to this party. I made the mistake and updated the Firmware of my BDR-XD07TUHD to the latest 1.05 and now lost LibreDrive thus unable to rip 4K BluRays. I still have a 1.03 firmware (the Windows executable) laying around and i tried changing the two appearances of "1.03' with "1.06" in a Hex Editor. But when I try to execute it, there is an Error thus it does not flash the old firm ware. What exactly has to be done (changed) in order to downgrade the firmware? Is there an alternative flashing tool that i could use?

I have my Pioneer BDR-S13J-X firmware upgrade to 1.04 but have download firmware 1.03 elsewhere from internet. Can anybody advise whether it is possible for me to downgrade my drive firmware back to 1.03? Thanks!

The BDR-X13U-S from Amazon seems to already be shipping with the latest 1.03 firmware (though I'm not entirely certain it was a virgin unit--the cables weren't bound with a wire and the plastic cover for the electric plug wasn't actually on the plug).
For anyone scared off Amazon's BDR-X13U-S because of my earlier post, I can confirm it was a return. I ordered another last week (after returning the 1st because it was used -- all the rubber feet were already installed and the protective plastic cover on the front was missing), and got a unit manufactured in Nov 2022 (vs. Oct 2022) with firmware 1.01.

I suppose I can update the unit to 1.02 but a bit too afraid to do that at this point.
