Only Mike (the author) knows for sure, but every ~2 months, over the last 10+ years, a new beta key has been published.

Neither this nor changing my computer's clock works for me. I even tried a full uninstall of the previous version, restart, install of 1.17.3, etc., and I still get the registration error. Guess I'm waiting. Which is fine - beggars can't be choosers; just wanted to chime in and say these solutions apparently don't always work.

EDIT: Changing my clock back a month and then pasting in the latest key worked. Go figure.

The key included with 1.17.1 is even older, so the system date would need to be moved back a LOT further to get approval to start.

Using the key in the linked message works with system dates up through March 31, 2023. Once started, the system date can be anything - it's only checked when the program starts.

Hopefully, Mike can update the key soon.

Mike has not announced anything about the beta expiring, so we know nothing more than what's been posted. Typically, he's updated the key within a couple of days; this is one of the longer "outages", but not the longest.

If Mike were ending the beta period, I would assume there would be a large message to that effect. He's been updating the keys for movies, so he's been working on things. But he doesn't keep ME up-to-date on his status.

It was not a posting special to you. It´s a general statement.
A short one liner "Sorry, Guys, I´m busy, a new key will coming in the next days" or "Sorry, Guys, the Beta Status is over" would be usefull for all users.

It would be nice, but dude you're asking for someone whose software you've used for FREE (if you paid you wouldn't be experiencing an outage right now) to provide you a message telling them they're too busy to provide a new free key? If you need to use it right now, buy it. You clearly need it so bad that going 5 days has caused you to complain about not having it. Throw the dev some bones. You've probably spent a lot more than $60 USD on movies.

So you're shaming people for actually using a provided feature (the free key program)? The program is offered as freeware, so naturally some will use it as such. Nothing wrong with that. Some of those users will become customers at some point. I've been on the fence about it for a while but I don't use it often enough, and money is tight these days. I don't see anybody making a big issue out of the late key situation this month. I just see users asking reasonable questions, since there's just been silence about this.
